I have twenty-three students in my class, nine boys and fourteen girls. We attend a school that was just recently reconfigured and consolidated. We are one of eight second grade classrooms in a school that is Pre-K -2. My students are high achieving and love a challenge. I think they would read ALL day if I let them. They are hard working and active!
Many days I look around around my classroom and see a number of students standing, rocking, sitting on their knees or just simply moving around as they are working. I have always been the kind of teacher that tolerates this type of activity. I have two very active children of my own and always hoped that their teachers would understand that they may not be able to sit as long as they are being asked and perform at the level that is expected because of their need to move. We ask children to sit a long time everyday. Most adults have a hard time sitting all day.
