The new cubbies will provide a safe and organized place for my growing cubs to keep their personal belongings. These will replace the old cubbies, which are unstable, broken and with sharp edges. Having their own cubby helps students build their sense of autonomy.
We don't only learn about organization through the use of our classroom spaces, but we reinforce bilingual literacy by displaying student's cubbies with their names, pictures and numbers. The cubbies allow students to gain independence and self help skills from the moment they enter the classroom by independently hanging up their coats, book bags, and putting away their personal items.
At this moment, students need to share cubbies to store their personal belongings which creates lots of confusion due to limited space. With our new cubbies, students will have more storage space and will be able to start their day with success! Since this will be their first time coming to school, I want their first experience to be as comfortable as possible.
