Through STEAM activities and lessons based on the theme of migration, my students will be immersed in language development and environmental/cultural studies with direct connections to their own growth and migration as learners. Students will be directly involved in setting up, planting, and maintaining a migration station in our school courtyard at our upper campus.
Through the use of the Arlo wireless camera, students at both campus locations will be able to view live feed of the migration station, including the stages of monarch development as we grow, tag, and release our own live monarch butterflies. Students will continue the learning process by developing literacy skills and language development through the use of the bilingual books and stories about butterflies and migration.
Connections to their own experience of "migrating" to the upper campus as well as from various neighborhoods throughout our city will be made. The project is an effort to connect the two campus locations as one program through the cultural connections and theme of migration.
