I am very fortunate to work with talented high school drama club students in Illinois. Many of them are so hungry for theatre experiences that they audition for (and are frequently cast in) parts in community theatre in another town. But if you ask them, they think performing on our own school stage is special.
Even though the school has only about 350 total students, we have produced some big shows like "Cinderella," "Harvey," "Snoopy!!!" and "My Fair Lady." They have been begging me to do more than two shows a year. This fall we are tackling Disney's "Beauty and the Beast!"
Every year we take some of the students to the Illinois High School Theatre Association Festival for three days of shows and workshops. They have a great time and learn a lot.
In March of 2012, we were granted a charter for our own chapter of the International Thespian Society. The students worked hard to make this a reality.
