My first graders are bursting with energy so my approach to teaching them is to use that energy and excitement in creating curious active learners. There are five different languages spoken in my class and many students are new to our country. Their different backgrounds have encouraged a sense of adventure and their openness to each other has created a positive classroom community. Most of our learning consists of collaborative hands-on projects promoting peer conversation which helps to build speaking and listening skills. During community circle time, we celebrate our daily successes and encourage each other in our challenges. My students have embraced our school wide theme of KINDNESS by helping to make our classroom a fun and safe place to express ourselves. They are truly leaders in the making!
