My students are recent immigrants hungry for an education where they are asked to think critically and examine human behavior to make a positive impact. They are inspirational, determined, adaptive, and thoughtful. Many of the students have lived with other relatives for many years prior to coming to the U.S., and some are living on their own. Most of them are the sole English speakers in the home, and they take on responsibilities of helping to provide for the family. They have dreams and want to get an education. They want to learn about U.S. history, their new country, and the people who live here so that they can understand how the past impacts their lives and those around them. They want to get involved in their communities and contribute to society.
