My school is in a very rural area of North Carolina. More than 90% of my students are receiving free or reduced lunch and come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, some have to work outside of the home while others are busy caring for younger siblings. They are active and excitable, they enjoy debates and creating poetry, they love to perform whether that be in the form of a play or a rap created with vocabulary words.
My school is a very positive and student-centered place to be. The teachers are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to reach all their students, to motivate the unmotivated and to ignite a passion for knowledge in their hearts and brains.
