I have chosen several different flexible seating options so that students can find what works best for them. Stability balls and wobble chairs allow students to "wiggle" safely without causing distraction. The wobble cushions can be used in traditional chairs, or on the floor. I am very excited to see how the students respond to the portable lap desks. With the increase in 1-to-1 technology, I think these will be an excellent addition to my classroom seating options. I want to give my 5th graders the tools and the freedom to be responsible for their own learning. Flexible seating will allow my students to choose the seating option and a work space that is best for them. When students are allowed to move around the room during independent work, they seem to be more on task and willing to do their work. I anticipate students may change their seating option during the day to allow their growing bodies to move and stretch.
