The Eagle's Retreat is a Care & Connect Center for Hidalgo students (Kindergarten-6th Grade) who are in need of social and emotional support. The Eagle's Retreat is designed to help students develop positive social skills, increase self esteem, and to learn how to make and keep friends through structured play. Members spend recess in the Eagle's Retreat, which is a special activity room equipped with toys, art materials, games, activities, and a comfortable atmosphere. The Retreat also offers deescalation services for students who may be feeling frustrated or are having a rough day. Our students come from poverty-stricken neighborhoods, surrounded by gang activity and drugs. Many of our students also belong to the foster care system or are living with relatives other than their immediate family. As a result, my center aims to provide the students with a safe place to voice their feelings, learn, and grow.
