Battle of the Books was an exciting event that motivated my entire class to read this year! Using the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List, my students formed the team that went on to represent our school in the district Battle of the Books competition. I plan to continue participating in Battle of the Books and the Texas Bluebonnet Awards. In order to do that, we need these books readily available in our classroom library.
My students knew that their hard work and participation in The Texas Bluebonnet Award was important and made a difference to students of all ages, across the country! Students read at least 5 books from the Master List and voted on their favorite. The book that received the most votes was awarded the Texas Bluebonnet Award. We went on to use books from the list in many of our class projects. These books are diverse, culturally relevant, and of quality writing. All of the requirements to create avid readers!
