I have been fortunate enough to teach 30 of the kindest, most creative, soon-to-be-but-not-yet-hormonally-intolerable eleven-year-olds in the wonderful state of Colorado. Each student of mine is so unique, and every day I learn something new from one of them. Imagine asking a group of five very different kids (one computer builder, one gymnast, one fervid Directioner, the boy who wears his Spiderman shirt every day, and a novice trombone enthusiast) to create an interpretive dance of the digestive system and expecting some slight controversy and awkwardness, only to witness the kind of respectful, unbiased collaboration that we wish we would see more often in the adult world. These kids are extraordinary.
My school is a suburban, K-6 school in Colorado's largest school district, with a small town feel to it. The school and the surrounding community thrive off of each other's exuberant commitment to the creation of a positive, involved community of life-long learners.
