My students come from various ethnic backgrounds (primarily Latin American countries). Some entered school with a wealth of knowledge and vocabulary in their home language as well as English. Others entered with impoverished skills in both languages.
As a reading teacher, I am fortunate to be able to assist and cultivate the language-learning experience of my students. There are many district-wide programs available at no cost to my students. However, the classroom computers are outdated. Also, many of my students do not have computers at home. There is a strong demand for new technology in the classroom, but inadequate funding to support the acquisition of the technology.
