I teach 5th grade American history in a high-poverty elementary school in Oklahoma. This year I have 102 students. The majority of my students are Native American or African American. My children often have challenges that I think grown-ups would give up on, but they are resilient, caring, and awesome kids.
We have our challenges, but our community also has much pride and we celebrate each and every success. We strive to keep our students at the heart of everything we do.
