I teach Early Childhood Special Education in a public school building that houses Pre-K through 4 grade. My students range in age from 3 to 6 years old. The students all have an individual education plan and have cognitive, motor, or speech/language impairments. Depending on when they begin school, they may actually be in the same classroom for three years. Our classroom is divided into learning centers. They consist of English Language Arts, Math, Fine Motor, Gross Motor, Housekeeping/Dramatic Play, Blocks, and Science/Sensory. The students rotate through the centers with a teacher who facilitates language and vocabulary development. They are able to explore each center everyday. I have to say, science is one of their favorites! Each month we pick a topic and develop the center around that theme. In September we studied pond life. October was pumpkins and nocturnal animals. We make learning fun!
