Our classroom is a vibrant, inclusive space for high school students with mild to moderate disabilities. My students have a wide range of needs and strengths—from those who are nonverbal and benefit from life skills instruction to those working toward independent living and employment. Some have autism, Down syndrome, or intellectual disabilities, and others are learning social and functional skills that will help them thrive beyond high school.
What unites them is their determination, joy, and resilience. We tailor instruction to meet each student where they are, helping them grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Our rural school serves a community where over half of students live in poverty, which limits access to resources.
