The rug and floor cushions I have chosen will allow for students to have flexible seating. When they have independent reading or working times my students can choose a "comfy, cozy area" to read. My school chose not to renew the STAR reading program last year and it was a struggle to get some students to read without an incentive. Ensuring my students are comfortable in their Reading Zone will be a great motivator for them. My students will be transitioning back to brick and mortar schooling after nearly a year of learning from home. My hope is that the items I would like will help ensure that the transition is easier.
In the past my students have enjoyed flexible, comfortable seating. I am hopeful that if I receive these items that more Reading will take place. It will also be an ideal area to work in groups and with partners. Students don't belong in desks all day, movement and choice is key to learning. Especially when they haven't been in a classroom in months and months.
The bulletin board items are to create a warm and inviting place. A return to school will be adjustment for everyone. I believe that environment and choice are very important to the success of my students and it is always my goal to create an awesome one! Whether it be through seating, walls, options, or just me, I want my kiddos to want to be at school!
