My students are 8th graders in Springfield, Massachusetts. Many of my students have experienced trauma and hardship and I am amazed at their resilience every day. I have many students for whom English is their second language or may not be spoken frequently at home. I love to find creative and engaging ways to get them excited about ELA and the curriculum in our classroom. My students love independent reading full of student choice books. They also enjoy creative and often artistic ways to show their mastery of a concept such as one pagers, found poetry and visual character analysis projects. We read a lot in my classroom and write everyday about what we read. I take pride in bringing little comforts of home in to my classroom to ensure a safe and comfortable place for my students to learn.
