My purpose is to introduce my students to how art can be integrated into computer science. By nature, art and math lend themselves to such a cohesive partnership, that integrating the two together creates a unique opportunity for learning.
Art not only appeals to the aesthetically minded student, but the mathematical minded as well. All of my students love to paint and are excited to get to create art using the Sphero SPRK+.
Students will consider and plan the images they wish to paint. Studying and learning Sphero block coding, which will eventually lead to JAVA programming, students will then program their Sphero SPRK+ to paint the design of their creation. Next, they will designate and create a "paint area" using the butcher paper and design a raised border to contain their paint and Sphero. Students will either place their Sphero into the specific paint color they want to paint with each time, or spurt various colors of paint onto the butcher paper. Once the students press the start program, the Sphero SPRK+ will follow the program that the students have coded and begin to paint their masterpiece.
