My students are 3rd graders who come from diverse backgrounds. They are learning at many different levels. This means that strategies need to be utilized to support the learners who are struggling in several different academic areas while at the same time challenge those high achieving students. Our school has a high population of English Language Learners who make up 42.2%. Free and Reduced Lunch is received by 38.3% of the population. Our staff works hard to bring the community together and create an environment where all students are challenged. Recently, our school has undergone several transformations in order to create a rigorous science program. Next year we will implement a STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading and Writing, Art, and Math) program to support teachers and students as we work to create a cross-curricular program with a strong foundation in project based learning which involves the problem solving and critical thinking that are important across all content areas.
