A sensory area is a must have in a special education classroom environment. Our students learn by exploring with all of their senses. Lighting, a comforting area to relax, soothing music, and assorted manipulatives are all essential items needed.
The majority of our students need sensory stimulation to focus and engage in learning activities. The weighted blanket is calming for students and helps them to either calm themselves when they become upset or helps them to sit and focus during an activity. Having fidget toys that they can hold allows them to release nervous energy and focus.
Our students also need hands on learning experience to understand new concepts like time, money, and other math computations.
