For many of my students, the music room becomes a place where they discover and improve their unique musical abilities. But singing, playing small percussion instruments, and movement lessons only take students so far in their musical education. In order to give elementary students a hands on experience in ensemble playing, glockenspiels, xylophones, and metallophones are needed in the elementary music classroom.
Learning to play these instruments in elementary music gives students a foundation in learning to read music and working as a team player in an ensemble. Giving them this opportunity will help prepare students for when they have the opportunity to join band in fifth grade. It also plays a great role in child's development by giving students an outlet for self-expression, focus, self-motivation, and a sense of community.
