In our science lab, I have the honor of teaching to all my students in grades 1st-5th. My 'little scientists' come to the lab excited to find about the world around them, and sharing ideas from multiple backgrounds and experiences. We have a diverse population with many immigrants of Hispanic and Asian/Pacific Islander backgrounds, and students whose first language is not English.
They challenge me to be innovative, to provide the best possible opportunities for all to build meaning from our hands-on activities, discussions, readings and investigations. Curiosity to find about the world is harnessed and put to action through group work, research, and integration of literacy and STEM.
Tangible explorations foster and nurture their curiosity, creativity and communication skills, while building opportunities to learn and grow as innovators, problem-solvers, makers and stewards of their communities.
