My classroom library is my most important resource. We do not have a local library, and most of my students will not or cannot travel to the next town to visit one. While our school has a room which we call the library, there is no longer a librarian and the selection is sparse and outdated. My students are frequently not readers when they first come into my classroom, and I aim to change that.
I need a quality selection of books for my students so that I can help them become lifelong readers and expand their understanding of the world. I need to update my library. Books by talented authors like Brendan Kiely and Kwame Alexander invite my students into the world of reading. Series like A Court of Thorns and Roses or Victoria Aveyard's Red Queen keep them there. I need to have the right book on hand to create connections with reading that will result in a habit that extends beyond my classroom. Readers have a better chance at success in the world, and I want to give my students their best chance.
