My students are among the hardest working individuals I have ever worked with. Many of them recognize the need to continue working on improving their literacy skills so they can be competitive with other students in other schools around the country and be prepared for the rigors of college. With that in mind, many of my students face extreme conditions at home such as poverty, single-parent homes, broken families, hunger, and difficulties with language acquisition. Many of them choose to attend our school because of the small student population and the easy access to teachers and small-group instruction so that they can catch up with their peers around the city. In simple terms: they recognize the need to succeed.
