My project will help to fill our classroom library with books featuring characters who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Reading these books will help my students to develop a positive self-identity, seeing others like themselves in positive, inspirational, and engaging reading material. These texts will fill our classroom library, be used for novel studies, and support diversity within our literature focus units. With multiple copies of the texts, students can bring books home to read and share with families, promoting a positive Deaf-identity for the student and their families too! In addition to the "Deaf Like ME" focused texts, my project includes positive reinforcers to further support social-emotional development. These materials help to increase student engagement and make learning fun! My project will foster a love of literacy, support diversity, and help students to develop a positive Deaf-identity - making our classroom an inclusive and fun environment!

About my class
