The Health & Wellness Committee will implement a "Hand Washing Campaign" to decrease absenteeism. Demonstrations of proper hand washing and hand sanitizer use will be shown to all students. With the help of each classroom teacher, all students will learn how "clean hands save lives" and how to prevent the spread of germs. Books & coloring lessons will reinforce students knowledge of this process. Increased awareness of the importance of handwashing will be emphasized to all staff, students & parents. The CDC estimates that 80% of infections are transmitted by hands and without this crucial step of washing hands before eating, a direct route of germs to mouths is created.
To prevent the spread of germs, the Health and Wellness committee at our elementary school is asking to get hand sanitizer dispensers for students to apply before entering the cafeteria. The transition time before and after meals are very limited. This will provide our staff and students with an accessible and doable form of hand sanitization that allows maintenance of the school schedule. In turn, this will cut down on the number of germs spread and decrease illnesses that keep students away from the classroom and learning.
