My students love challenging themselves with activities that go beyond the average paper and pencil classroom tasks. They get an opportunity to try different STEM projects in my classroom such as wrecking balls, catapults, or flood barriers. However, they are encouraged to develop their own projects through innovation and imagination. This pushes them to be stronger thinkers, problem solvers, and learners. By emphasizing creativity, innovation, and "out-of-box" thinking, our students will be better prepared for an ever changing world. However, if we lack the materials, students cannot reach these goals.
The project-based approach to learning through STEM materials gives students a chance to break out of traditional educational settings. Students get to learn from a hands on approach. We learn through trial and error to solve every day problems in the classroom. The life long learning goals that students gain from this type of learning can motivate them to take on real-world challenges.
