The current headphones we have now are whimpy, whimpy, whimpy. Foam ear cushions fall off daily. Wires are constantly tangled. Randomly one earphone stops working. Students get frustrated and annoyed during a time of very intentional skill building first thing each morning. The rhythm of the day is thrown off within the first hour of the day - but there is a solution!
My goal is to have a set of headphones for every student in 3rd grade. Quality student headphones allow students to focus on learning instead of the distraction and frustration of headphones not working properly. If every student has a quality pair of headphones, it creates a sense of belonging. No one feels left out or cheated out of a special pair of headphones. One pair per student also creates responsibility. Headphones will rotate classes with the student to ensure that each student has the same headphones for the school year.
Our school is considered a Transformational Zone School. We are considered to be a failing school on a mission to be an A school. The majority of our students come from low income families or families unable to academically and/or economically help their children. Many parents are working multiple jobs to make ends meet. Many students come from unstable home environments. Providing quality headphones for every student is one small thing that can cause a major positive ripple effect in their lives.
