I work in a Title 1 school, as a STEAM (STEM) teacher. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Most of my students speak other languages, and live in impoverished communities. Our school believes in the Responsive Classroom model, wherein we guide our students to developing social, as well as academic goals. Students engage in meaningful social situations that challenge them to become kind, caring, and purposeful citizens. It is my initiativscenae as a STEAM teacher to engage elementary students engaging problem solving activities that require collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. Students use the engineering design process to explore and tackle problems, design prototypes, create models, and test and improve their product. My goal is to help elementary students in developing critical 21st century life skills that will help them be successful in their future.
