The students in my class are young and inquisitive. They are culturally diverse and come from different economical backgrounds. My students live in a low socioeconomic area and attend a Title I school, at which over half of the students receive free or reduced priced breakfast and lunch. In my Math 180 class, many of them are identified as struggling learners in mathematics. Despite their struggles, they are always ready to take on new challenges.
Every one of my students has the potential to unlock the mathematician in themselves.
My middle schoolers enjoy being creative by expressing themselves through hands-on activities and through visual arts. I am impressed with their ability to tackle real life mathematical problems using different types of strategies learned in class.
