Will you do me a favor? Close your eyes for a moment and imagine the place in your world where you are most relaxed. If you're reading this at work, you may already have been imagining this, am I right? This year, I'll be working with fourth-grade students all day who are energetic, curious, independent, and, more than anything, determined to read at the same grade level as their peers. While some may be reading at or above grade level, most of my students exhibit specific learning disabilities or have fallen behind due to an entirely virtual year, a year cut short, and the nature of being quarantined during a global pandemic. I will be by their sides all year long helping them read fluently while finding out what they enjoy reading when no one is watching. I want my classroom to offer a selection of books that provide mirrors, windows, and doors - a library as diverse as my students are!
