I have partnered with some other teachers to do some "Maker" days together. We need more Legos. We just do not have enough. It would be nice to have plenty to talk about communities and then actually build a community. There are many more possibilities with Legos. We truly want to integrate designing something, building that something, and then testing that something.
In the past I have used Legos in all facets of math and even some in science with sorting, classifying, and graphing. With this new batch, I plan to use the Legos even more with math in teaching, area, perimeter, spatial recognition, graphing, classifying, fractions, and computation. I would also like to do more with science where students could design a Lego structure and build it. For example: students could design a catapult, build that catapult and test the catapult all while recording data in a spread sheet about it. I would also like to start incorporating Legos into writing instruction. An example would be that students could build a set out of the Legos and then write a story about what they have built.
