My students come from families who struggle to make ends meet. They often live in apartments shared by multiple families. Each family uses one room, with limited access to kitchens and/or living rooms. Our school is in an inner city neighborhood plagued by gangs and crime, yet through the hard work of our students, our state test scores continue to rise.
