These students deserve the best music education possible at the elementary level. Giving the students an opportunity to play recorders will open a new level of possibilities in their music education. Students will be utilizing an instrument that requires physical control of breathing, fine motor skills, and engagement of mental facilities all while being musically expressive.
By having the students participate in recorder karate they will learn how to play the instrument faster through competition. My students love competition and love to compete against one another. When students visually see other students progressing by achieving different color "belts" on their recorder, they will want to progress too.
