My students are in first grade. Reading levels vary from just starting to read to great readers. I have many low income students who are on free and reduced lunch. I have students whose parents do not speak any English and the students struggle because of this. Many of my parents cannot afford to go out and buy books for their students because they don't know where their next meal is coming from. They live in trailer parks with homes that have boarded up windows and no electricity. There may be 2 or more families living in one trailer but it is home and they are thankful for that.
