The students in my high school come from a variety of economic backgrounds and ethnicities. Over half of our students are free and reduced lunch recipients. Our school implements community circles to improve the learning environment. Making these strong connections with the students strengthens our community. One of my favorite parts of being a teacher is making deeper connections with students and helping them solve problems and learn that their individual strengths can be used as a tool to help them connect with each other. One of the biggest challenges we face today is more students lack impulse control skills. This affects their behavior, ability to learn and their overall well being. I want to help them more than just being their biology teacher. I want to help them embark on their journey of life while having significant coping methods in an ever changing world.
