The curriculum of the program is inspired by the Kodaly Approach to teaching music. My belief that singing is the best path to comprehensive musicianship has been the fuel behind this inspiration. This method is something that is unique to this area and I feel isolated away from Kodaly educators to receive ideas.
I research every week on new material and in the search the Kodaly books on my wish list always come up in some shape and form. Especially for kindergarten. I plan the most for the youngest kids and need more material for them to sing, chant and play to.
The students love singing and moving to music. After setting the foundation of music fundamentals, they love to put that knowledge to action on instruments.
Students work together through instrument stations and do so amazingly well at focusing when it is instrument time in class. However, the classes are so big that we often do not have enough of one kind of instrument. In addition, we only have three instrument groups, which can be chaotic.
