Autistic students do not learn the same as gen. ed. students and often use sensory items to gain knowledge. An iPad will give my students the opportunity to work independently on skills such as reading and math. Like most children, many autistic students find computers engaging and respond to the apps. Many of my students are also nonverbal and can use the iPad's voice commands to communicate. Unfortunately, my school does not provide white copy paper which is essential to print out pictures for special needs learners. A tactile ABC center will help students to master letter recognition and also strengthen fine motor skills.
