During the period of distance learning from March through June, I used my laptop every day to connect with my students. This involved using Google Classroom to post daily assignments, having Google Meets for story time, chatting with the students to see how they were doing, and having fun daily Question & Answer sessions where they read my questions and had to type their answers. With practice, my students improved their keyboarding skills, as they were encouraged to type their own answers during the Question & Answer sessions which focused on many important language arts, math, and science concepts. Since they had to read my questions, they improved their reading skills tremendously. Their phonetic spelling also improved as a result of answering my questions.
Without a good working laptop, I would not be able to effectively teach in a remote manner. I have been experiencing difficulty with the one I have for quite some time now. Now and then, the cursor will automatically move to some other random spot when I'm typing, and I would be typing to the wrong student! This new laptop will help me to work more efficiently, especially when I am online with my students. I am also looking forward to connecting a document camera to this laptop for distance learning. Young learners especially need to access content visually and auditorily. This laptop will provide the means for me to connect with my students and to teach them the best way I can during this pandemic.
