Like the artwork they make in my classes, my students are creative, colorful, and diverse. We work together to make my room a safe and open space for all students to learn, push themselves, and try new things without fear. I teach in a high poverty area where over 85% of our student population speaks a second language. Most of my students I only get to see 30 minutes a week and I want them to feel that the art classroom is an exciting place where students are to learn, grow, discuss, imagine, invent, experiment, and to be themselves. We are a community of learners! I love watching students challenge themselves and set new goals each day. They can be leaders and express themselves in creative ways, making innovative connections between other academic subjects. I enjoy observing and guiding students in experimenting with a large variety of media and discovering their individual creative strengths and challenges.
