My students need food and drink to act as motivators and give them an extra boost of energy throughout the day. My students want to be successful. But, they often lack the motivation or knowledge to make the right choices. In combination with that, they often don't have support or resources at home to give them appropriate nutrition to get through the day.
Through this project I will give them motivation and nutrition at the same time. I will use classdojo.com to give students points for “good student” behavior. Students will use their points to buy the food (cookies, fruit snacks, cheese-its etc) and drink (water and apple juice) requested through this project.
Students will get points for “good student” behavior such as participating, helping a classmate, working collaboratively and persevering through a hard task. As well as many more skills they need to practice to be college and career ready. When they do this they can then buy rewards as mentioned above and get a much needed motivator and calorie bump to keep them succeeding throughout the day.
Students will start doing these “good student” behaviors because they want a snack. But, as the year goes on they make these good decisions because they see how it feels to be successful, collaborative etc. Therefore, this project will not just help them get the food they need, but also help them become better students in the long run.
