My we are lucky enough to have a one to one student to iPad ratio for STAAR testing which comes with an English dictionary.
Unfortunately, the iPad does not come with a Spanish dictionary app, this causes a very unfair advantage that discourages my students who test in Spanish only.
My students need these dictionaries because it is only fair that they have at least a physical Spanish dictionary. Kids get nervous enough when testing, but it becomes even more nerve-wracking when they stumble upon a difficult word. and no matter how many times they re-read the word, or use context clues, it does not compare to having a dictionary on hand!
Although they work hard and learn every strategy under the sun to decipher words and use context clues for meaning it does not match up! My kiddos deserve some good reliable dictionaries.
In reality, we need 40, but we are okay with only receiving 29. My co-teacher and I are willing to purchase the rest out-of-pocket!
