Being from rural Maine, my students are more interested in being outdoors than being inside with a book. They aren't always motivated to read and I want to provide a reading experience for them that I think they'll get really into: Michael Finkel's The Stranger in the Woods, about the Maine hermit who lived off the grid for many years. It ties into several themes that we cover, including utopias and dystopias, personal choices and responsibility, and models for change. I know my students will engage with this story and be excited to read about places they are familiar with!
