I teach preschoolers with autism at a Title-I, Equity Focus, public elementary school for five hours a day, Monday through Friday. All of my students have special needs and struggle learning in conventional ways. However, like most preschoolers, my students learn best through the hands-on manipulation of materials, which naturally happens when playing with toys. My students are naturally very curious and inquisitive. I love seeing their faces as I show them how to do something and then watch as they try to imitate and then start trying new things.
Being a new teacher, I am still trying to build up a collection of fun, engaging toys and books that will help my students learn. By having a variety of engaging toys and activities to learn from, my students will improve their fine motor skills, social skills, critical thinking, and turn-taking skills.
