Jefferson-Houston is the first preschool through eight grade school in Alexandria VA. It combines a SMALL learning environment with CHALLENGING academics and a GLOBAL focus. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, there is a focus on developing the whole child so that they gain the intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills needed to live, learn, and work in a rapidly globalizing world. My classroom provides Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 as part of the World Languages curriculum for middle school (grades 6, 7, and 8). After teaching Visual Arts for 8 years at a dual language immersion school, I am a new Spanish teacher at Jefferson Houston! So, I plan to integrate the arts into my Spanish class in order to bring the language to life and engage our students. In fact, as a Title 1 school, we have particular challenges and I am excited about our new approach but I need YOUR support.
