After finishing my Master's degree in Special Education and working with third graders, I found myself teaching Kindergarteners to read. Reading doesn't come naturally to everyone, and some of our little learners have to work really hard to become proficient readers.
Their brains are working really hard to make sense of letters, to find patterns, and make permanent brain connections in order to become successful readers.
This project will help me further my knowledge of the science of reading research and learn practices that are aligned with it. I will be able to create routines in phonics instruction in our classroom that are proven successful.
Professionally, I am only at the tip of the iceberg and I want to learn all that I can. I am looking forward to implementing explicit, high-quality instruction in our classroom.
