We teach at a high-poverty elementary school (with a 92% free/reduced lunch rate) in Florida. Our class is part of an outreach/assistance program based on the Harlem's Children Zone in NY. Children and their families are provided individualized assistance with regard to developmental needs, as opposed to a blanket approach.
This program follows the child throughout their education career, in order to truly break the cycle of poverty leeching on our community. We have 18 4-year-olds in our class, a mix of typical kids and those with disabilities. They are all already big dreamers and show so much potential. It is truly a wonderful thing to see this program help change their lives for the better.
