My students are an inspirational group of English Learners. These kids are newcomers to the country, many of them refugees seeking an opportunity to make a better future. They come to my school speaking practically zero English, and they make such impressive progress that by the end of the year it's hard to imagine a time when they couldn't communicate with their teachers and English speaking classmates. My students are unique because they love school so much, they would rather be at school than at home - many stay on campus participating in sports and after-school programs until late in the afternoon. They show the kind of dedication and work ethic that teachers dream of! They possess an intrinsic motivation that reminds me of why I became a teacher in the first place.
