I teach all subjects to a class of 20 students at a Title 1 school. My students are amazing! I have an inclusion class that includes five students with various learning disabilities. I also have fourteen students that are English Language Learners in which Spanish is their first language. Half of my class is considered below grade level in both reading and math. My students lack the background knowledge that is often taken for granted. Many of my students do not get the opportunity to experience simple things like camp, the zoo, vacations, or even riding on a boat. Many of my students have never even left the county that they live in. My students' lack of building background knowledge can hinder their learning if they are not exposed to the world around them.
