Throughout our winter learning, students enjoyed Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? as part of our shared reading time. This book supported important early literacy skills such as listening comprehension, pattern recognition, vocabulary development, and confident participation. Students loved joining in with the repeated phrases, making predictions, and connecting the story to animal sounds and movement.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is joyful, interactive, and community-centered. Alongside our read-alouds, students decorated wooden ornaments and created gingerbread sticker houses using storytelling language to explain their ideas while strengthening fine motor skills. The gingerbread sticker houses were sent home as an extension activity, giving students the opportunity to continue learning and creating with their families. On the final day before winter break, students wore Santa hats, which helped create a joyful sense of community and togetherness as we celebrated our learning and time together.\r\n\r\nEach student received their book as a wrapped surprise to take home rather than opening it at school. This allowed families to share a special moment together, with the book presented as a gift from their teachers. Sending the books home helped extend learning beyond the classroom, allowing families to share in the joy of reading while students continue practicing and strengthening their reading skills at home. \r\n\r\nYour generosity created not just lessons, but meaningful memories that celebrate literacy, creativity, family, and community. When the materials arrived, my kindergarten students' eyes lit up with excitement—especially when they saw the scoop chairs and reading buddies. They couldn't wait to choose a cozy spot, pick a stuffed animal or doll, and begin reading aloud. The whisper phones quickly became a favorite tool, helping students hear themselves read and proudly self-correct as they practiced. What once felt challenging now feels playful and empowering.\r\nWe use these resources daily during small-group and independent reading. Students curl up in the chairs, read to their \"reading buddies,\" and build fluency in a calm, low-pressure environment. I've seen hesitant readers grow more confident, eager to share their voices and take risks with new words. Reading has become something they look forward to, not something they shy away from.\r\nOur next steps are to continue strengthening fluency and comprehension as we move into more complex texts and begin writing about what we read. The foundation your support helped build—comfort, confidence, and joy—will continue to support my students as they grow into strong, enthusiastic readers. The lacing beads, chain links, sorting sets, and building tools have become favorites, allowing students to grasp, twist, connect, and build while strengthening fine motor skills and early STEM thinking. Students are now able to sort materials based on a variety of attributes, such as color, size, shape, and quantity, while also explaining their thinking to peers. These hands-on experiences have made math and STEM concepts more concrete, meaningful, and accessible for all learners.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students' excitement was immediate and contagious. Their eyes lit up as they explored the bins, eagerly asking questions and jumping right into sorting, building, and problem-solving. Many students who typically struggle with traditional paper-and-pencil tasks showed increased confidence and persistence when learning through tactile exploration. The materials encourage collaboration and creativity while supporting independence and engagement.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these resources will continue to support our current focus on counting, patterning, and problem-solving while laying a strong foundation for future STEM learning. Students will be challenged to sort in new ways, compare attributes, and justify their reasoning as their skills grow. Thanks to our donors, our classroom is now a space where learning is active, joyful, and empowering—and where every student has the opportunity to grow as a confident problem solver.","fullyFundedDate":1757560864191,"projectUrl":"project/grasp-twist-build-learn-stem-for-lit/9695907/","projectTitle":"Grasp, Twist, Build, Learn: STEM for Little Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Long","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5683206_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1547918941325","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5683206"},{"teacherId":9752023,"projectId":9605551,"letterContent":"This project has created social interaction and group comradery because the students love seeing their photos, and as pictures get printed and I post them it creates conversation between them. Each looking over each photo admiring the details and their smiling faces, funny faces and fancy poses. When parents come in, they comment on how fun all the photos are and like to find their own children in the mix\r\nIt has helped cultivate relationships for me, because we are able to have a connection through them knowing my passion and them making photos fun by poses or finding their own ideas of how a photo should be taken. It is also great because this is an ongoing project that doesn't have an ending date. Capturing moments throughout the year and memories they can take home to last a lifetime. I don't have to worry about the ink on the staff printer that always becomes a problem by springtime and the science fair. Without your donation there would be less pictures. A new round of photos will be going up this week and filling up the board even more.\r\nAs I share my photo passion with the kids, I am delighted to see them notice things and details in photos. I often show them photo winners in different categories, when I get reactions or comments it makes me smile. I am thrilled that they point out things they think I should take pictures of. As the photo collection grows so will the photos being printed as well as an introduction to collages which is now a reality project with the ink we have. As I slowly work to collect old phones, I hope to get a camera club going.\r\nThe other Item that has also been a great addition to the library are the book holders. With having more of these, I can have more books on display rather than in a row on the shelf. I find that having more books displayed improves circulation. Some kids are intimidated by all the books if they are a low reader, by displaying more covers, the books can capture some interest with their exciting cover picture, it also helps books that haven't been pulled out in a while to get back into the hands of students. It has been successful so far. It has also been a great way for me to know the collection better. The Donors choose site has helped me to further help students explore through your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1756763910598,"projectUrl":"project/help-me-share-the-joy-of-photography/9605551/","projectTitle":"Help me share the joy of photography!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hollis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9752023_orig.jpg?crop=2544,2544,x0,y322&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755295368974","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9752023"},{"teacherId":5683206,"projectId":9706794,"letterContent":"Our new laminator, cardstock, and laminating pouches have completely transformed the way my kindergarten students learn! Now, instead of using paper worksheets that tear easily, my students are tracing letters, matching numbers, and sorting pictures on beautifully laminated cards they can reuse over and over again.\r\n\r\nThe technology behind the laminator might seem simple, but in our classroom, it's been a game changer. It's helping my students practice fine motor skills, build early literacy and math foundations, and develop independence as they rotate through centers confidently. They especially love using the new tracing and matching games because the laminated surface lets them write and wipe clean to try again—a feature that makes learning both fun and forgiving!\r\n\r\nSome of my students who were hesitant to participate at first are now eager to join in.
